Family door, wood stain

This door stood in the dining room of my grandparents’ home for decades, witnessing generations gather around the table, from the original seven family members who settled in Alameda to eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Repurposed, sanded down, and painted with wood stain, the door becomes both surface and subject. Rendered directly onto the artifact that once framed these everyday moments, scenes of family life emerge from the wood itself. Through the material memory of the door, the presence of my grandparents is revealed, preserving a space where shared meals, traditions, and family history unfolded across generations.
