About OLIVIA CHERRY
I am an interdisciplinary artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area, working across painting, sculpture, ceramics, and digital media. My practice centers on kapwa—a Filipino concept of shared self or togetherness—alongside collective consciousness, restorative justice, and environmental stewardship. Through these lenses, I explore how we relate to one another and to the natural world, and how those relationships might be repaired, reimagined, and renewed.
My work often extends beyond the studio into community spaces, family homes, classrooms, and outdoor public settings. In these spaces, I invite dialogue and collective action at the intersection of society, justice, and the environment. I see art not only as an object, but as a site of encounter, one that can hold complexity, encourage accountability, and cultivate care.
Rooted in both art and research, my practice is shaped by my academic background and by my own lived experiences. It is continually informed by internal struggles that are softened and transformed through sincere, kind, and truthful engagement with others.
